We are changed by repetition. The voices we hear, the pace we keep, the images we consume, and the people with whom we practise being ourselves all leave form behind.
Influence is not a weakness. It is part of being relational. The question is not how to become untouched, but how to participate more consciously in what touches us.
Which environments make you more performative? Which make it easier to tell the truth? What do you repeatedly consume that leaves the world feeling smaller? Where do you encounter a version of yourself you want to strengthen?
We may not be able to leave every shaping force. We can sometimes add a counterweight: a slower conversation, a different teacher, a weekly ritual, an hour in a place that does not ask us to advertise ourselves.
Character is not formed only through dramatic decisions. It is also formed through the atmospheres to which we repeatedly return.
