Conversation
A place where your experience can be spoken, understood and considered with honesty, care and curiosity.
About
I believe meaningful change begins in a relationship where you can feel understood, think openly and explore your experience without judgment or pressure to become someone else.
Emma James
R.C.C., M.C.P., A.T.I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and art therapist with more than ten years of clinical experience.
I have worked with adults from varied backgrounds navigating trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship concerns, identity, caregiving, illness and significant life transitions.
Earlier in my career, I spent significant time supporting people and families affected by cancer. That experience deepened my respect for the practical, relational and existential dimensions of illness, uncertainty, grief and change.
My approach is collaborative, relational and integrative. I listen for what is happening now, as well as the experiences, relationships, patterns and stories that have shaped how you understand yourself and your world.
Some stories help us survive and make sense of our lives. Others may begin to restrict us or no longer reflect who we are becoming. In our work, we can consider where these stories came from, how they continue to affect you and whether new ways of relating to yourself and your life are possible.
Conversation is central. When useful and welcome, our work may also draw on art-making, imagery, metaphor, mindfulness, dreams or other forms of creative and symbolic reflection. These approaches are offered collaboratively rather than applied as a fixed formula.
How we may work together
A place where your experience can be spoken, understood and considered with honesty, care and curiosity.
We can explore the patterns you carry, the relationships that shaped you and the stories you tell about yourself and your world.
Art-making, imagery, metaphor, dreams or optional tarot may offer another way to approach what is difficult to express in ordinary language.
