Some endings arrive without the conversation, explanation, or recognition we hoped would complete them.
The mind returns to the missing exchange. If the right words were spoken, perhaps the ending would become real. Sometimes that conversation is still possible. Sometimes waiting for it keeps our life tied to a door another person must open.
A private ritual cannot provide their answer. It can mark your own participation in the ending.
Write two lists: what you are returning, and what you are keeping. Return the responsibility that was never yours, the imagined explanation, the task of being understood by someone who could not understand. Keep the learning, the love that was real, the boundary, the version of yourself that survived.
Read the lists aloud. Tear, bury, burn, or store the first safely. Place the second somewhere you can find it again.
Ritual does not manufacture certainty. It gives the body an event through which to recognize a truth the mind may already know: the ending happened, and your life is permitted to continue without every question answered.
